DAKOTA

1 yo neutered male in Northern California...[AUG 03]
I am a beautiful Belgian Malinois male, about 1 year old, rescued from an animal shelter. I am neutered, have all shots, heartworm prevention and got wormed and microchiped. I am crate trained, and travel well in car. I have some manners (sit, stay, NO!!! and I am working on some more). I am great walking on a leash, intelligent and trainable. I am currently in foster care and getting some training. I qualify to attend free obedience training if you'd take me. I am extremely curious, sweet and loving with females (I follow you around and love to be hugged). I am afraid of some men and dominant dogs, but I eventually warm up to them. I didn't get along with the German Shepherd at my foster home at first, but was fine with the smaller (friendlier, playful) dogs and I am now getting along with the Shepherd. She's showing me how to play Frisbee! I am nervous and afraid of surroundings initially, because I don't know what's going on but I will relax and be playful, silly and loving once I know that I am safe and no one will hurt me. I am very sensitive and get sad and hide in my doggie house when I get in trouble and get yelled at. I am allowed inside the house under supervision (I LOVE THAT!). I sleep in my crate indoors at night. I will do great with some training and socialization. I will be happier with an owner who can give me lots of attention, take me walking or running regularly and give me proper training. I NEED A JOB, even if my job is to follow you around the house! I don't want to be a backyard doggie. I would rather be your best friend and shadow. I want a good forever home and people to call my own. Contact Grisselle Martinez at GMartine@ora.fda.gov

[Louie]

LOUIS

5 yo spayed female in Gaithersburg, Maryland...[JUL 05]
Louie is a neutered Belgian malinois (possibly a mix), female, age 5. She is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Louie spends most of her days lying on her back with her belly up, taking a nap. She loves bellyrubs and playing with squeaky toys, especially squeaky balls that she can stomp and kick around. She has a strong prey instinct, and likes squirrels and other moving animals. She used to be able to scale a 6 foot fence, and would run very gracefully. I haven't seen her scale any fences after she had an operation on her foot one year ago (she fractured a wrist after jumping off the balcony), but she can still run beautifully. She's shy with strangers but very affectionate with family. She's a leaner, and leans against you while enjoying a side rub. When she wants attention, she puts her front paw on your knee, then after making eye contact, she lies down on her side and waves her paw until she receives a rubdown. Her eyes are very expressive. Louie was abandoned in Athens, Greece. She has travelled with us to China, and up the US west coast. She may have been abused at some point, and is afraid of bicycles, long sticks (like brooms), and lawn mowers. The cartilege in her ears got broken when she was a puppy and as a result her ears do not stand up (except when she sees rabbits and squirrels). Louie has never shown any aggressiveness towards children, but she generally walks away if they bother her. Now that we have an infant, we can't give her the same attention that we used to. Please help us find a new home for her. Contact Julia Fu at (240) 393-9961 or by email at juliafu@hotmail.com.

[Beeper]

BEEPER

11mo spayed female in Hopatcong, NJ...[SEPT 05]
We rescued her from a breeder/trainer who felt she was simply too shy for the schutzhund work he had in mind for her. Beeper, as we named her, is a petite female weighing around 48lbs. She lived in a kennel run for the first 10 months of her life but has adjusted very well to a home situation since moving in with us. Beeper is outgoing, playful, and submissive with people she knows yet reserved and nervous around strangers. She is friendly, affectionate, and ball crazy! Beeper loves to race around and simply looks like poetry in motion when she's on the move. She's housebroken, crate trained, and does very well off leash once established with an owner. Beeper is spayed and fully vaccinated. She would make a great dog for someone interested in dog sports such as agility or rally-o, a good jogging partner or hiking partner. She settles nicely in the home and gets along with our male dog well - would be an excellent companion for a young male dog looking for a rough-housing playmate! Beeper is located in Hopatcong, NJ. We are willing to drive her to meet people however she will not be shipped. Adoption fee of $225 to cover expenses of spay, etc. Contact Jenni Sue at hunny_1020@yahoo.com

[Viper]

VIPER

5 yo spayed female in Saskatchewan...[OCT 05]
Viper is AKC Registered, very affectionate with people and has a lot of energy. She is the type of dog that loves to work, hike, swim, and run for her ball. Her owner is looking for a good home for her as she is not getting along with the other bitch in the house. It has escalated to the point where she is worried about her toddler. Viper does get along with the other male dog in the house, and tolerates the cats, though she would probably be best in a cat free home. Viper is very well obedience trained, and has competed and achieved her Brevet in French Ring. She has also competed at Ring Level 1. She has been trained in agility, and probably wouldn't take too much work to get trial ready with the right handler. She also earned her Herding Instinct Certificate at the age of 6 months. Viper has grown up as an indoor dog. She has a very good recall and loves to play off-leash. She loves to please her people. One of her favorite games is tug, of course. She is crate trained and sleeps in her crate nightly. She needs a home where she will be part of the family. She will gently pass her ball to a child to play and is not a resource guarder. Visit her website to view more pictures of Viper. Contact Heather at heather@rviper.com or Charlotte at info@spiritusdogs.ca.

[Doerak]

DOERAK

10 yo male in Southern California...[FEB 06]
Doerak (pronounced like Derrick) is a retired Police K9 Officer and is looking for a great retirement home.Doerak is almost 10-years old and in good health. His teeth are worn from the many street bites he had but they have all been fixed. He is tall, slender in appearnace with a large masculine head. He is red in color with a black mask. He is from Holland and is not pedigreed. Doerak is social and forward with people. He is good with children and tolerant of their ways. Doerak is not a submissive animal, he does not challenge the handler but will not accept being treated unfairly either. Doerak would not do well with another male dog. He is active and would make a great hiking or running partner. Doerak was truly a great PSD, he deserves a great retirement home, unfortunately my career does not allow me the time to devote to him. Doerak is not for the person fascinated or obsessed with the Police K9 Officer. He will be neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on his vaccinations at time of adoption.
